“A rigorous physical discipline drawn from such diverse influences as ballet, traditional Japanese and Greek theater, and martial arts, the training seeks to heighten the actor’s emotional and physical power and commitment to each moment on the stage. Attention is on the lower body and a vocabulary of footwork, sharpening the actor’s breath control and concentration.”

Suzuki technique, named for its founder Tadashi Suzuki, is a vocal training comprised of physical teachings drawn from a mixture of traditional Japanese theatre and western techniques.

Students will use several Suzuki walks or basics to exercise focus, discipline and the grounding of energy. The training, while physically demanding, frees the voice and lends it power.

Movement clothes exposing the knees and socks are required. Knee support is encouraged.
